3D CAD Modelling and Solidification Simulation

The Tritech Group's production activities are fully supported by an in house software facility. This comprises a full suite of 3D CAD modelling software together with full solidification simulation capabilities.

3D CAD Modelling

The team at Tritech works with Solidworks 2004, Pro/Engineer Wildfire, i-deas (versions 8&9) as well as Rhino 3D modelling software - with seats of these software packages operated in house. As well as the ability to import each of these native file types, Tritech can also import the following file formats for 3D solid models:

  • Step AP204 & AP214
  • Iges files
  • Use trimmed surfaces type 144
  • Set accuracy to high (i.e. significant digits to 14, if option is available)
  • VDA fs (*.vda) files
  • ACIS (*.sat) files
  • Parasolid(*.x_t & *.x_b) or *.xmt_txt & *.xmb_txt from unigraphics
Data can also be accepted for 2D drawings in the following formats:
  • Autocad *.dwg & *.dxf files
  • HPGL, CGM and most other graphic formats
[NB: for 3D solid models Tritech prefers IGES or native file formats. Step/Parasolid/Vda are acceptable if clients have these options for exporting. If not please supply an STL file. Please call if you encounter any problems.]

Solidification Simulation

Tritech also runs 'heat transfer finite element analysis' software for 'solidification simulation' trials. This type of simulation - specifically developed for casting applications - enables enhanced planning and minimises the time taken to design gating and feeding systems. Furthermore, simulation of this nature clearly illustrates the effects of design changes on the castability of the component, without investing in expensive physical trials.

Used in conjunction with the Tritech Group's Rapid Prototyping capability, Solidification Simulation is an invaluable tool that contributes greatly to the company's dedicated aim of design for manufacture (DfM).

Data Transfer

CAD data can be sent to Tritech via e-mail (cad@tritechgroup.co.uk) or can be downloaded from a client's ftp site (if applicable).
